Where does styling happen? What location?

Typically, my 30 minute Complimentary Confab takes place on Zoom or at a coffee shop convenient for you. The styling process usually takes place in your home, because we’re looking at your existing wardrobe and determining how I can help you feel joyful and confident. For those who want to skip the Closet Cleanse and go straight to shopping, I recommend we do at least one 2-hour session in your home to make sure we’re shopping for the items you’re missing, and so I have a sense of how you feel about your current wardrobe.

Do you travel?

I travel on an as-needed basis and am currently based in Tucson, Arizona. For travel by car to Sahuarita, Marana, or Tucson’s surrounding areas, there is no additional charge. I often work in Phoenix and charge the equivalent of one working hour, or $129. Simply give me your address when you email me to determine the travel fee. For travel by plane, I only require reimbursement of airfare and hotel stay. I then only charge for our time together, not my travel hours.

How do I know if I need a stylist? Or, I have great style and I’m not sure I need your help.

If you are running late and need to communicate with me, text is the correct form of communication. I only respond to client texts between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., all days of the week. However, my preferred form of communication is email so that I do not miss anything (as a busy mama of twins, I have lots of texts!) When I am with clients, I am completely focused on them and use my phone to take photos of outfits, so I do not text back if I am with a client. Additionally, I am transitioning to using email primarily to communicate with clients. My email address is allison@bestdressedstyling.com.

I accept cash, Venmo, CashApp, personal checks, and all major credit cards through a Square swipe at the end of our session. I no longer accept Zelle payments.

If you’d like to purchase a package of hours, I require a 50% deposit. The other 50% is due upon completion of deliverables/meetings. When using my scheduling page, you pay directly for the time you book on my calendar up front. If you’d like something specific or customized to you, I’m happy to help! Once we do the free 30 minutes together, I can send you an invoice for the services we discuss.

If you have budget concerns, I am working on a sliding scale option for clients who are financially insecure or of marginalized identities (BIPOC, LGBTQ+, folks with disabilities, etc.) I take sliding scale clients on a case-by-case basis due to the demands on my schedule. When my schedule allows, I am able to discount my hourly rate to $89/hour. I also teach virtual workshops that are priced more accessibly.

A Closet Cleanse usually takes 2-4 hours, but very occasionally I have a client with an extremely small, edited wardrobe that takes less time to edit. I have also had clients with multiple walk-in closets + additional items stored elsewhere in their house and that took 10+ hours over several days. I recommend we start with a few hours and go from there based on your needs. Decision fatigue is real, so if you have a large closet, I recommend you book several sessions over a few weeks so we can have some time to breathe.

I work with clients of all kinds of budgets and definitely appreciate an eco-friendly approach of shopping secondhand when possible. However, in the styling process, I don’t recommend you always buy clothing as cheaply as possible - please read my blog post or IGTV on Pain Points for more information. I typically work with a client’s existing style, and over time recommend they shop less often and more mindfully, actually! Once we have worked together for awhile, you’ll see that it’s easier for your life to have a closet of items you love that serve your life goals, rather than a closet of things you only like $3 worth. However, I have shopped secondhand for quite awhile and definitely find online secondhand sites to be very useful. However, rather than shopping for the fun of it, I’ll be teaching you to shop strategically and thoughtfully.

Yes, absolutely. Remote work is here to stay. We will do all our sessions on Zoom. I recommend you have good lighting available, if possible, a full-length mirror, and carve out the time with others in your home so we have no distractions.

My gifting policy is that the gift giver must schedule a 30 minute consultations then the gift receiver must also do the 30 minute consultation to ensure that the gift receiver actually wants styling as a gift. My process is always based on mutual respect and consent. It can get sticky or tricky to buy styling for another person, so I want everyone involved to be in communication. Once the gift receiver determines they’d like to work with me, the gift giver determines a budget and pre-pays the invoice for styling services. I then work predominantly with the gift receiver to ensure their needs are met.

This is a great question! To decide if you should hire a stylist or me specifically, to quote the great Cher Horowitz from the masterpiece Clueless, “It’s a personal decision every woman has got to make for herself.” I’ll add in folks of all genders, since I work with lots of genderqueer and trans clients. MANY of my clients have great style and a great eye, but their closets are overflowing with pieces that do not serve them and they do not wear most of their clothes. Working with me is offloading labor you do not want to do, like any other task you pay others to do for you. I can help you streamline your purchasing habits, direct you to great new brands you may not have seen before that fit your style perfectly, and help you see where you’re going wrong (aka a wardrobe of clothes but nothing to wear). Hiring a stylist helps make your life easier and more joyful and confident. It helps you more easily pick clothes to wear every day from your closet, helps you feel more confident in what you’re actually wearing, teaches you how, when, and why to accessorize or select a specific bag or color, and I teach you my personal 4F method to make sure you’re always shopping for exactly what you need, instead of buying random things you won’t end up wearing. Hiring a stylist, while an initial price investment, has a HUGE return on investment in saved costs. No more spending on things you’ll never wear again. No more last minute pricey emergency shopping before a big event. No more waste on clothing that will end up in a landfill. Hiring me means your wardrobe will serve you completely and fully once we have completed our sessions together. I even have clients whose goals include using me less, and we work toward building sustainable shopping/acquiring clothes practices so that you can only use me for special events or packing for trips, or whenever you want!
